WELCOME TO THE PARISH OF THORPE ON THE HILL

Thorpe on the Hill is a small village in the local government district of North Kesteven, Lincolnshire. It is situated approximately six miles (ten kilometres) to the south-west of Lincoln city centre.

THORPE ON THE HILL PARISH COUNCIL

Parish Councils were established by Act of Parliament in 1894. There are around nine thousand such local councils in England. The number of councillors on a Parish Council depends on the size of the parish. In Thorpe on the Hill we have seven Councillors who meet at least nine times a year including one annual meeting. Parish Councillors are elected to represent the interests and views of the local community and are unpaid volunteers.

THE ROLE OF THE PARISH COUNCIL

The Parish Council owns and is responsible for the flowing assets: Oliver Roper Parish Meeting Room, Eric East Memorial Lake, War Memorial, Oliver Roper Play Area, Two Allotment Sites, Tennis Court, Village Noticeboard, and various benches around the parish. The bowling area is also owned by the Council but is managed and maintained by the Bowls Club committee. The Council also deals with the implementation of the Neighbourhood Plan,  comments on Planning Applications and looks after general maintenance around the village such as grass cutting.

Thorpe on the Hill also has three paid employees. The Parish Clerk who provides advice and administrative support, acts as a point of contact for the Council and takes actions to implement council decisions. The Caretaker who manages all bookings and looks after the maintenance and cleaning for the Oliver Roper Parish Meeting Room. The Parish Litter Picker who keeps Thorpe on the Hill as litter free as possible.
