Welcome to Thorpe on the Hill Parish Council
The village of Thorpe on the Hill has a Parish Council with seven elected or co-opted Parish Councillors.
A parish council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the parish and has an overall responsibility for the well-being of its local community. It is the level government closest to the community, with the district authority above it in the hierarchy. As it is the authority closest to the people, parish councils are invariably the first place people will go with concerns or ideas. For this reason they are a vital part of any community.
The work falls into three main categories:
- representing the local community
- delivering services to meet local needs
- striving to improve quality of life in the parish

Committees. The Parish Council also has two Committees. The staffing committee, which is not open to the public and Lake Management Committee (LMC) which is open to the public. Terms of reference for these committees can be found under Council Business.
Councillors declaration of interest
Parish Councillors need to complete a Register of Interest form and submit to the NK Monitoring Officer within 28 days of being elected or co-opted to the authority.
They are also required to update their Register of Interest form when there is a new interest to register or an interest ceases e.g. employment or property. Another reason may be if a Parish Council changes its Code of Conduct which may impact upon ‘interests’. It is good practice for all Parish Councillors to review their Register of Interest forms at least twice a year in case their circumstances have changed.

It is recommended by the Monitoring Officer that each Parish Councillor keeps a copy of their own register of Interests. The Parish Clerk must ensure that the updated Register is available on the Parish Council’s website for inspection if required.

Thorpe on the Hill Parish Council meetings are normally held Wednesdays at 7pm on the following dates at the Oliver Roper Parish Meeting Room and are open to the public. The public can only speak during public time which is 20mins at the start of the meeting.
