Weight Restrictions on Traffic through the Village and Mud on the Roads

There is an enviromental weight restriction on most of the roads through Thorpe on the Hill.

This limits vehicles to a maximum gross weight of 7.5 tonnes.

This Map shows the restricted routes.

The only exemptions to the order are listed below:

  • vehicles being used for or in connection with the conveyance of persons, goods or merchandise to or from any premises situated on or adjacent to that length of road or where access cannot be obtained to premises on adjoining roads by any other public highway.
  • vehicles being used to proceed to or from any premises on or adjacent to that length when on the occasion, is to be, or has been garaged, serviced, or repaired.
  • vehicles being used for the purposes of agriculture on any land adjacent to that length of road, or for or in connection with the conveyance or haulage of timber felled upon such land
  • a vehicle granted special written exemption by Lincolnshire County Council
  • in connection with the carrying out on, or on premises situated on or adjacent to, that length of road of any of the following operations, namely:

                (i)            building, industrial or demolition operations.

                (ii)           the removal of any obstruction to traffic.

                (iii)          the maintenance, improvement, or reconstruction of that length of road.

(iv)         the laying, erection, alteration or repair in or In land adjacent to that length of road of any sewer or of any main, pipe or apparatus for the supply of gas, water or electricity or of any telecommunications apparatus as defined in Schedule 2 of the Telecommunications Act 1984;

  • for Fire Brigade, Police or Ambulance purposes.
  • in the service of a local authority or water authority in connection with work being carried out on, or on land adjacent to that length of road in pursuance of statutory powers or duties.

As you can see from the undelined text, agricultural vehicles, which are over the weight limit, should only be using the road if the land to be accessed is adjacent to the length of road on which they are travelling.

Any enforcement of the weight limit is the responsibility of the police as the Parish Council and County Council do not have enforcement powers over 'moving' offences.

If you are concerned that traffic is passing throught the village which exceeds the weight limit, you can contact our local PSCO by emailing:  Sarah.Lingard@lincs.pnn.police.uk
